Robust Detail FFT-5 resilient overlay shallow platform floor systems can be used in E-FC-1, E-FC-2, E-FS-1 & E-FS-2 separating floors.
The acoustic decking must achieve a minimum laboratory performance of rd∆Lw=17dB.
Robust Detail FFT-5 resilient overlay shallow platform floor systems comprise of a 9mm (min) tongued and grooved board with a pre-bonded resilient layer.
No services can be installed within the floor system.
Robust Detail FFT-5 resilient overlay shallow platform floor systems can be as little as 19mm thick and minimise construction heights whilst complying with statutory regulations.
Robust Detail FFT-5 resilient overlay shallow platform floor systems offer a more aesthetically pleasing finish to a screeded floor which is used in many concrete floor applications.
As with any robust detail the correct external wall, separating wall internal wall and ceiling detail must be adhered to. The Robust Detail handbook should be consulted to ensure that the separating wall is compatible with the separating floor and vice versa. The Robust Detail checklist should be used to ensure that details are adhered to throughout each sequence of the build.
When installed correctly robust details such as Robust Detail FFT-5 should exceed the requirements set out in Part E of the Building Regulations.
With over 15 years of experience in installing all types of Robust Detail flooring solutions, JCW Acoustic Flooring have the knowledge and expertise to ensure that floating floors are installed correctly giving complete peace of mind.
The Robust Detail FFT-5 resilient overlay shallow platform floor system is not suitable for the installation of underfloor services such as HVAC and underfloor heating etc.
Designed to sit atop flat timber or concrete floors, this system provides good impact sound improvement, making it ideal for flats, apartments, schools and hospitals.
For more information about where you can use the Robust Detail FFT-5 resilient overlay shallow platform floor systems, you can read the technical datasheet or drop us an email with your project requirements- we’re more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
If the ability to install underfloor services is essential for your project, browse our range of acoustic battens or acoustic cradles, both of which can support large services.
Final floor finishes, or finish floorings, are the uppermost layer of flooring that is used by building inhabitants. These include:
The deck of the Robust Detail FFT-5 resilient overlay shallow platform floor is therefore ready for the installation of finish flooring.
It is important to note, however, that the use of vinyl may require additional floor preparation to ensure it settles and performs as expected.
For more information about the benefits of the Robust Detail FFT-5 resilient overlay shallow platform floor, or for advice on how to prepare for vinyl application, you can email us or call us on 01204 548 400, to chat with a member of our friendly, knowledgeable team directly.
The wall surfaces must be prepared before installing the Robust Detail FFT-5 resilient overlay shallow platform floor.
This includes plaster skimming or plaster boarding down to the level of the sub-deck.
Failure to complete the wall preparation before the flooring system is laid could result in unwanted sound transmission via the wall edges, reducing the effectiveness of the system.

Every project aims to reduce wasted time by working as efficiently as possible.
As such, you may be wondering if you could combine the curing time of both the Robust Detail FFT-5 resilient overlay shallow platform floor system and finish flooring.
Unfortunately, however, to ensure the adhesives cure properly and that the lifetime of the product is extended, you must leave the finished deck to cure for up to 24 hours.
Similarly, during the curing time, it is critical that temperatures are maintained above 5°C, otherwise it will be too cold for the PVA adhesive to cure.
Finally, it is important to check that the flooring has cured after the allotted time, as curing time can be affected by multiple factors, including humidity and the size of the space.
