JCW Acoustic Deck 28 & 32 can be used on concrete subfloors or timber subfloors. They can be used within new build and refurbishment projects. Whether working to Robust Details or Pre Completion Testing, JCW can offer the ideal solution.
JCW Deck 28 comprises an 18mm P5 T&G Chipboard with a 10mm pre-bonded resilient layer. Whilst the JCW Acoustic Deck 32 comprises a 22mm P5 T&G Chipboard with a 10mm pre-bonded resilient layer.
A 5mm (min) perimeter edge strip is used at perimeters to isolate the floating floor from walls and skirting.
When installed correctly the Deck 28 & 32 Systems will exceed the requirements set out in Part E of the Building Regulations.

What are Acoustic Deck systems?
Acoustic Deck systems are large boards of 18mm or 22mm thick chipboard, featuring a 10 mm resilient foam layer.
No matter the depth you order, the boards function to reduce airborne and impact sound transmission by providing a layer of soundproofing within floating floors.
The JCW Acoustic Deck 28mm & 32mm provide twofold benefits for reducing sound transmission based on their structure.
- The interlocking, tongue-in-groove structure ensures a layer of airtightness, preventing airborne sounds from passing through the separating seam in the boards once laid.
- The extra weight and rigidity from the layers of chipboard and foam also provide a reduction in impact sound transmission.
When installed correctly with the 5mm (minimum) JCW perimeter edge strips, which isolate floating floors from the walls and skirting, customers should notice a marked difference in sound transmission, for both airborne and impact sounds.

Do JCW Acoustic Decks 28 & 32 meet Robust Detail requirements?

How to lay JCW Acoustic Decks 28 & 32?
As with all soundproofing products, installation is best when provided by qualified and experienced technicians. This is because any mistakes made during installation, including incorrectly placed penetrating elements, such as screws and nails, can undermine the quality and effectiveness of the product.
Factors to consider before installation
Before installation can begin, trades must ensure that installation sites are flat, dry, and free from all debris. It is encouraged that installation be completed towards the end of a project to protect the boards from accidental damage, high floor loading, or moisture.
Similarly, prior to installation, all surfaces should be adequately prepared, including plaster skimming or boarding walls, to reduce sound transmission through gaps at the wall edges.
How to install JCW Acoustic Decks.
Once preparation work has been completed, JCW Acoustic Decks can be installed.
Non-structural board JCW Acoustic Deck types can be laid onto an existing sub-floor, be that concrete or otherwise, while structural boards can be attached to flat or level joists.
JCW perimeter edging, or L- shaped strips, can then be used to isolate floating floors from walls and skirting, and to provide a further barrier for airborne sounds within the air gaps of the wall and skirting.
Further rows of the Acoustic Deck can now be laid, using JCW perimeter edging strip and acoustic sealant/ mastic to ensure there are no gaps that airborne noise could penetrate.
At the end of the installation, it is important that the finished floor should not be walked on for up to 24 hours, while the temperature is maintained above 5° C to allow the adhesives to cure.
