Acoustic Cradle System Installed after flooding to David Lloyds Gym – Aberdeen
The David Lloyd health and fitness centre in Aberdeen’s flood hit Garthdee suffered major damage and was forced to temporarily close after ‘Storm Frank’ caused devastation across the North East of Scotland.
The floods which caused several other local businesses to close occurred after ‘Storm Frank’ brought gales and heavy rainfall to western parts of the UK and Northwest Scotland with gusts as high as 85 mph. At the height of the flooding in Garthdee, the water rose up above the crossbars of the goals on local football pitches.
Water was seen bursting from the David Lloyd gym into the car park and causing damage to parked cars. The following day after emergency services had drained away the water, several cars could be seen piled on top of each other with windows and doors shattered.
Working for Key Property Solutions, JCW Acoustic Flooring were called in to urgently install an Acoustic Cradle system (Robust detail FFT-2) to replace the existing raised floor damaged in the severe flooding.
The Acoustic Cradle and Batten Systems are ideal for levelling uneven subfloors and can accommodate levels varying from 55mm to in excess of 300mm. JCW’s Acoustic Cradle System offers a phenomenal reduction in impact sound and whilst maintaining a high compressive stability.
Gym members were notified of the partial closure by email stating: “David Lloyd Aberdeen regret to inform all members that we have experienced a severe flood. The club will be closed until further notice. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”
As the health club needed the gym up and running as soon as possible, time was really of the essence on this project. Bearing the inconvenience to its members in mind we worked continuously for 19 days to complete the installation of 1200m2 of acoustic flooring.
In addition to JCW’s installation of the Acoustic Cradle system David Lloyd are in the process of investing £4 million into the club to deliver a better experience for their members. The investment will include state of the art gym equipment, new exercise studios, a new steam room and a café.
The gymnasium was closed from 31.12.2015 and due to fully re-open early April.
