Acoustic flooring can make a massive difference to the usability and feel of a space – but when it comes to installation, it can seem complex.

As such, many of our customers come to us concerned with how to install their chosen acoustic flooring solution.

So, if you are considering Cellecta ScreedBoard 20, an acoustic deck option, what do you need to know in advance?

Read on to find out what the experts at JCW Acoustic Flooring think you need to know before you can get started.

What is Cellecta ScreedBoard 20?

Cellecta ScreedBoard 20 (and 28) is an acoustic deck solution offering floor soundproofing for airborne and impact noise.

Each overlay board has high thermal conductivity – making it an ideal solution for premises looking to install underfloor heating.

Constructed from interlocking high-density gypsum with a thickness of 20mm, Cellecta ScreedBoard 20 (or 28) looks and feels like a screeded floor – cutting out possible next steps and making the installation of finished flooring quicker and easier.

Cellecta ScreedBoard 28 is similar to Cellecta ScreedBoard 20 but has a thickness of 28mm and alternative acoustic compliance.

Installation advice for Cellecta ScreedBoard 20 and 28

Detailed installation instructions can be sought from the manufacturer but our top tips for installing Cellecta ScreedBoard 20 yourself include:

Pre-installation

  • Always leave ScreedBoard to acclimatise in the intended end location for 48 hours, without temporary packaging.
  • Keep ScreedBoard dry at all times and if it does get wet, you will need to leave them to dry completely and discard the unsavable deck boards.
  • Avoid stacking on the tongue and grove as this can produce irreparable damage.

Installation

  • Only install once other trades have finished – stops potential or accidental damage.
  • The substrate must be level before you begin – the floor can have a tolerance of at least SR2 (a maximum 5mm gap over a 2M straight edge).
  • Concrete floors should have a maximum relative humidity of 75% or lower – seek specialist advice if not.
  • If ScreedBoard is going over underfloor heating, perform all tests, including pressure testing, before you begin.
  • Always start in the far left-hand corner of the room, with the tongue of the ScreedBoard on the short and long side facing walls.
  • Use a hand or circular saw to cut deck boards well away from other boards – in case you damage the board beneath.
  • Use Pro Adhesive instead of nails or screws.
  • You must isolate the ScreedBoard from any and all plasterboard and skirting boards.

Post-installation

  • Check finished floor instructions to see if you need to prepare your finished ScreedBoard in any way.
  • Unless specified, you can install finished flooring right away.

While it is much simpler than other acoustic solutions, JCW Acoustic Flooring doesn’t recommend your average DIY-enthusiast attempts to install acoustic decking, like Cellecta ScreedBoard 20.

This is because simple errors can lead to mistakes that damage whole runs of flooring and reduce the overall acoustic performance.
