JCW Acoustic Floor Batten Systems are suitable for use both timber and concrete sub-floor structures.
The Acoustic floor batten can be used within new build construction and refurbishment projects.
Our Acoustic Floor Batten Systems offer the ideal solution, whether working to Robust Details or Pre Completion Testing.
For installs to concrete subfloors JCW 80C Acoustic Floor Batten system should be used. Whereas the JCW 80T Acoustic Battens System are the ideal product when the install is onto a timber subfloor.
JCW Acoustic floor Batten systems have a 10mm pre bonded resilient layer which is made from open cell, recycled polyurethane. Standard batten sizes are 80mm overall, however other battens sizes are available to suit any finished floor level that you may require.
Acoustic Floor Batten Systems offer an exceptional reduction in impact sound and whilst still maintaining a very impressive compressive strength.
The primary advantage of using the JCW Acoustic Floor Batten Systems is that services can be installed between battens. It is important however that services do not bridge the resilient layer on the battens.
JCW Acoustic battens can be overlaid with an 18mm (min) tongued and grooved board. This is usually chipboard but can be plywood or engineered hardwood flooring.
When installing the JCW80T acoustic batten system with a timber frame, a 25mm mineral wool an additional layer of gypsum based board with a nominal mass of 13.5kg/m² is installed on top of battens prior to the 18mm (min) tongued and grooved board. This is done to add mass to the separating floor and improve airborne performance.
A 5mm (min) resilient flanking strips is required around the perimeter of the flooring board. This is to isolate the floating floor from walls and skirting.
For batten centres it is important that manufacturers recommendations are complied with. For further advice please call JCW on 01204 548 400.
All acoustic battens used by JCW Acoustic Flooring have been tested in a UKAS accredited laboratory.
When installed correctly JCW Acoustic Batten Systems will exceed the requirements set out in Part E of the Building Regulations.
With over 15 years of experience in installing all types of acoustic flooring systems, JCW Acoustic Flooring have the knowledge and expertise to ensure that floating floors are installed correctly giving complete peace of mind.
The main difference between the JCW 80C system and the 80T system is the material on which the acoustic battens can be laid.
JCW 80C Acoustic Batten Systems are concrete floor battens, denoted by the letter C in the product name.
The JCW 80T acoustic batten system, however, is a timber floor batten, noted by the T in the product name.
Although similar in appearance and installation information, to retain the exceptional reduction in impact sound, it is recommended that you choose the correct batten system for either timber or concrete sub-floor structures- as is required by your project.
When installed correctly, JCW Acoustic Batten Systems will exceed the requirements set out in Part E of the Building Regulations and meet Robust Detail requirements.

Our JCW 80C & JCW 80T Acoustic Batten Systems are traditionally 80mm overall, and are made up of 70mm wooden battens, topped with 10mm of a pre-bonded resilient layer of recycled polyurethane.
If 80mm is too large and you are working with concrete subfloors, you could consider the JCW 50C Acoustic Batten System. Developed as a sister product to the JCW 80C Acoustic Batten System, the 50C battens match in acoustic properties, just with a smaller batten.
Custom sizes can also be requested to ensure they fit your project’s requirements. To order custom sizing, contact JCW Acoustic Flooring today by filling in our enquiry form or sending us an email with your size requirements.
JCW 80C & JCW 80T Acoustic Batten Systems are designed to be topped with a choice of 18mm minimum tongue and groove boards and 25mm mineral wool insulation to add mass to the separating floor and improve airborne performance.
This, when coupled with the exceptional reduction in impact sound provided by the acoustic battens themselves, creates a system that reduced both types of sound pollutants- providing excellent value for money and superior acoustic performance.
If you cannot lay battens according to the manufacturer’s instructions due to specific project requirements, please contact our office- we can offer advice on alternative installation techniques or alternative acoustic flooring options that meet your requirements better.
